Maxim Integrated's MAX78000 neural network accelerator chip is modular in design. Maxim plans to build larger and smaller versions, i.e., devices that can handle more complex or less complex AI tasks, and integrate a mix of peripherals suitable for more specific applications. The result will be an IC family with a range of cost and performance points that will enable a wide range of potential low-power applications to integrate meaningful AI-powered audio and video functions. The MAX78000's integrated hardware accelerator, along with a low-power Arm Cortex-M4F core and RISC-V core, provides the necessary computational power while consuming less than one-hundredth of the power required by comparable ICs from other semiconductor manufacturers.
