With a new company building, the security expert Wibu-Systems provides more space for future tasks. A center for IT security is also being built next door. This should further strengthen the IT location Karlsruhe.
The security company Wibu-Systems is moving – to a new corporate campus with two buildings in Zimmerstraße in Karlsruhe – directly next to the old freight depot. The buildings were developed by Wibu-Systems itself, together with the architectural firm archis Architekten + Ingenieure. The project was implemented by IBA Immobilien as project developer, mdbm as project manager and Wolff+Müller as general contractor. Both the headquarters of Wibu-Systems in the first building and the »House of IT-Security« in the second building right next to it are intended to strengthen Karlsruhe as an IT location with new innovations in the coming decades.
The two six-story buildings contain offices, laboratory and research units as well as production facilities. They were built to high quality standards and with an appealing ecological footprint: for example, they are equipped with photovoltaic systems, high-tech cooling and heating systems, and charging stations for electric cars and e-bikes. Carefully selected building materials complete the ecological design. The building is also designed to be inviting and appealing to business owners, employees and guests. In addition, the Wibu Systems building has access controls, special security zones, and a reliable power supply and Internet connection – as required for a company operating in the IT security sector.
In keeping with the company's commitment to local businesses and products »Made in Germany,« most of the concepts and materials used to build the production and office space came from local partnerships or were sourced from vendors in the region. Located right next to Wibu-Systems' new headquarters, the House of IT Security is expected to attract many entrepreneurs, researchers and startups in its coworking spaces and permanently rented units. As it is specifically designed for IT security talents, it complements Wibu-Systems and is also a boost for Karlsruhe's tech community.
