In the future, Mobileye plans not only to provide autonomous driving technologies but also to operate its own autonomous ride-hailing service. The new initiative is set to launch in a U.S. city in 2027.
Mobileye plans to combine its expertise in autonomous driving with fleet operations, passenger services, and mobility management into a vertically integrated offering. In doing so, the company is expanding its existing business model—as a supplier of autonomous vehicle technology to automakers and mobility providers—to include a new operational business unit. Customer projects aimed at implementing autonomous mobility will continue to be supported.
Currently, Mobileye Drive is being integrated into partner programs as a standalone system for autonomous driving. With this planned initiative, Mobileye is expanding its role across the entire robotaxi value chain.
To this end, Mobileye Drive will be combined with the mobility platform of its subsidiary Moovit to leverage user applications, multimodal trip planning, autonomous vehicle control (AV Mission Control), fleet management technologies, and connectivity to teleoperation infrastructures.
Mobileye’s business as a provider of the Mobileye Drive autonomous driving system for automakers, mobility operators, and other customers remains unaffected. Mobileye expects that both customer and in-house robotaxi programs will develop in parallel in the future.
Mobileye initially plans to deploy a fleet of approximately 100 vehicles in a major metropolitan area in the U.S. starting in 2027. The rollout is scheduled to take place gradually throughout the year to validate the operating model under fully driverless conditions. Following the successful operation of this initial fleet, Mobileye plans to significantly scale the business—adding approximately 17,000 vehicles over the next five years.
»The robotaxi revolution has only just begun. Its potential to transform how we get around worldwide continues to grow,« said Prof. Amnon Shashua, founder and CEO of Mobileye. »With the rising interest in autonomous mobility, the industry has become increasingly dependent on a small number of technology providers and business models. We see an opportunity for a new approach based on our comprehensive expertise in autonomous driving, strong industry partnerships, and proven capabilities across the entire mobility ecosystem.«
Mobileye plans to announce further details regarding commercialization, technology, and operations at a Capital Market Day to be held in the U.S. later this year.
To implement the AV platform, Mobileye plans to collaborate with manufacturers of AV-capable vehicle platforms, fleet operators, integration partners, and other key technology providers. This ecosystem is designed to enable Mobileye to manage and operate autonomous ride-hailing services as a single business unit.
»This initiative does not replace our existing partnerships, but rather expands them,« said Shashua. »We remain firmly committed to supporting automakers and mobility providers with Mobileye Drive. At the same time, operating our own service allows us to accelerate the adoption of autonomous mobility, gain direct operational experience, and realize its full potential.«
