appliedAI (Initiative for Applied Artificial Intelligence) sees itself as Europe's largest initiative for the application of trustworthy AI and supports companies in their holistic AI transformation. The initiative was established in 2017 by Dr Andreas Liebl as a division of UnternehmerTUM Munich and was transferred to a joint venture with the Innovation Park Artificial Intelligence (IPAI) Heilbronn in 2022. The MCML is one of six national AI competence centres and part of the AI strategy of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). As a joint initiative of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) and the Technische Universität München (TUM), the MCML will receive long-term funding as part of the AI strategy of the Federal Government and the Bavarian State Government. The MCML aims to strengthen regional, national and international expertise in the field of AI and to make the corresponding potential from science and industry accessible to people.

The combination of current AI research and application expertise is essential for the development and use of cutting-edge AI applications in companies. The cooperation between MCML and appliedAI combines both elements in a profitable way. Companies have the opportunity to contact the MCML or appliedAI directly with their concerns and questions about AI. The next step is to identify a team of appliedAI employees and a suitable MCML chair, depending on the enquiry and focus. The AI experts from the respective chair are then directly integrated into the company project via appliedAI. In this way, companies receive customised support to accelerate the use of AI.
