At the Wireless Congress: Systems & Applications on November 16 in Munich, the IQRF Alliance will announce the release of IQRF as an open standard. For Dr. Vladimír Šulc, CEO of Microrisc and the IQRF Alliance, it is the biggest step the Alliance has taken so far.
? How important is Electronica 2022 and Wireless Congress 2022 for the IQRF Alliance and its members?
! Dr. Vladimír Šulc: We will announce release of the IQRF as an open standard for Wireless Mesh Networks at Electronica and Wireless Congress 2022. It is the biggest step in the 18-years history of the IQRF which further emphasizes maturity of the IQRF. So, this is very important for us and for the whole IQRF community.
? How has the wireless market and the IQRF Alliance evolved since the last Electronica? What impact do the current crises?
! Dr. Šulc: The wireless market is just a small piece of the very complex puzzle of IoT that no pandemic or war can stop. This is why we are currently seeing even growing demand for smart solutions, which is now related mainly to the energy savings. We look forward to seeing the component shortage situation return to normal so that we can meet the rapidly growing demand more quickly.
? Which are the current challenges faced by companies, using wireless technologies, and the members of the IQRF Alliance?
! Dr. Šulc: Due to different application needs, the wireless networking market is highly fragmented. Companies that need wireless technologies for their products should choose the most suitable one. They should consider interoperability, security, reliability, complexity, energy budget, communication speed, latency, technology maturity and references, economic aspects, support, etc. It is really challenging.
As one of the pioneers of Low Power Wireless Mesh Networks, we are excited that the world has rediscovered the need for wireless mesh technologies, especially to achieve robustness and reliability. And because reliability, interoperability, security and low power consumption are the essential pillars of our technology, the biggest challenge for the IQRF Alliance members is migration to the new IQRF open standard.
? What are the newest innovations from the IQRF Alliance and its members?
! Dr. Šulc: Many technical innovations have been announced in the last two years, especially those that reduce power consumption to such a level that, for example, an IQRF sensor transmitting data every 4 minutes can operate for almost 50 years on a single AA battery. Theoretically, of course, because the actual battery life and moral life of the application is lower. However, definitely the biggest step forward is the introduction of IQRF as an open standard, without connection fees and without license fees.
? What can Electronica visitors and congress participants expect this year?
! Dr. Šulc: Besides disclosing basics of the new IQRF Open Standard, we will show at our booth B5.245 many innovations and technical improvements. At our presentations and tutorials at Wireless Congress 2022 we will disclose technologies and protocols bringing reliability, robustness and low power, both theoretically and in a practice.
? Thank you for the interview.
