Benteler EV Systems, Beep and Mobileye are working together to develop an all-electric autonomous mover for the first and last mile. The vehicle is expected to be on the road on public roads in the USA as early as 2024.
The three companies announced a strategic collaboration to develop and deploy fully electric and autonomous movers in public and private communities across North America. The shuttles are intended for use in the first and last mile - meaning the distance between where you live and the nearest public transit access point - in urban areas, and are expected to enter production in the United States in 2024.
The collaboration between Benteler EV Systems, Beep and Mobileye is expected to enable the development and deployment of a fully autonomous electric vehicle (SAE Level 4) for the U.S. that meets automotive industry and public road safety standards. Benteler EV Systems' purpose-built autonomous mover will be supported by Mobileye's industry-leading Mobileye Drive self-driving system and complemented by Beep's proven deployment and operating systems, technologies and services.
The trio of companies can draw on years of experience in key aspects of autonomous solutions - Beep in operating micro-transit and mobility solutions, Benteler EV Systems in designing and manufacturing automotive solutions and safety systems, and Mobileye in providing automated driving solutions.
Benteler EV Systems, a Benteler Group company, specializes in total systems engineering for electric vehicles and is known for its scalable and modular platform for electric vehicles, the Enteler Electric Drive System. Benteler EV Systems will build on its expertise to develop an autonomous mover and integrate all the individual subsystems into it. This also includes industrialization and production of the mover. Production will take place in the U.S. - with the goal of introducing the Mover to other countries worldwide and thus contributing to the mobility of the future.
Mobileye is the market leader in autonomous driving solutions and has shipped more than 100 million of its leading computer vision solutions for the established driver assistance systems market. With one of the most widely distributed autonomous fleets in the world, operating in Israel, Germany, Japan, China, France and the U.S., Mobileye is proving the capabilities of its Mobileye Drive self-driving system.
Beep has successfully tested autonomous electric shuttles in many public road projects for tens of thousands of riders over tens of thousands of road miles in 2021 alone. Beep's service and technology can avoid many cubic meters of carbon emissions by replacing fossil fuel-based transportation services with electric vehicles. Beep has worked closely with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration as part of its autonomous vehicle testing programs and is using its years of experience to help develop the new platform, with a focus on safety.
