Swissbit has designed the retrofittable plug-and-play USB security anchor "iShield HSM" for storing security keys in IoT environments.
The "iShield HSM" hardware security module (HSM), in the form of an industrial-grade USB-A stick, enables secure storage of cryptographic keys and credentials used to identify, authenticate and register devices in the IoT. Swissbit has designed and qualified "iShield HSM" for Hardware Security Integration (HSI) in AWS IoT Greengrass. This allows system integrators to upgrade and retrofit existing AWS-IoT-Greengrass devices such as gateways or industrial controllers with a hardware security module. Once plugged in, "iShield HSM" provides high hardware security for the private key and certificate of the respective IoT device. The secure element used (CC EAL6+) is embedded in the hardware via chip-on-board technology. This not only makes "iShield HSM" tamper-proof, but also qualifies the hardware security module for use in harsh operating environments.
"iShield HSM" is based on an industrial-grade USB memory stick produced by Swissbit in its own factory in Berlin and sits in a compact and robust metal housing. The plug-and-play security anchor complies with PKCS#11 and PKCS#15 cryptography standards and is compatible with the open source software stack OpenSC. It is available now through the online stores of Mouser Electronics, Farnell and Digi-Key Electronics, as well as other partners.
