Until now, TQ's e-bike engine was an exotic one. With Haibike, TQ has now gained a large manufacturer who is bringing the product to the mass market.

There is a lot of movement in the booming e-bike business. The automotive suppliers have really set the market in motion, above all Bosch, which as the market leader supplies most of the drives for electrically assisted bicycles. Continental and Brose, for example, also jumped on this bandwagon, although they are only represented in small numbers. Traditional bicycle suppliers such as Shimano and Yamaha were even more successful in capturing market share.

In this segment, TQ is a niche supplier with a more aerospace background. Maximum quality and reliability are the highest maxims in this market - costs must be subordinated to this. This is both a good and a bad prerequisite for entering the bicycle market, because the consumer business is cost-sensitive.

Compact, Round Design

TQ's motor is a permanently excited DC machine that has role models in servo motors for satellites. The unique feature of the drive is the pin ring gear developed by TQ, which consists of an inner and a fixed outer gear. This gear is responsible for the fact that the design of the TQ motor is completely round and can therefore be harmoniously integrated into a bicycle frame. In just one stage, the transmission has a ratio of 1:37.

So far, only small premium bike forges such as M1 have used the TQ engine. With Haibike, a brand of the Winora Group, TQ has now been able to win a heavyweight in the bicycle industry as a customer. As of model year 2019, Haibike will equip its Flyon series e-mountainbikes with the TQ HPR 120S engine. The 120 in the designation stand for a maximum torque of 120 Nm. This makes the TQ motor the most powerful in the e-bike segment. The most powerful Bosch engine "Performance CX", for example, brings 75 Nm to the crankshaft. With list prices between 5,000 and 9,000 euros, however, the Haibike e-mountainbikes are in the premium segment.
