Nextmove is adding far less Tesla Model 3 to its fleet than planned. By the end of 2018, the company had ordered 100 Model 3. When the first 15 vehicles were delivered in spring of 2019, however, only every fourth vehicle was without defects, in some cases vehicles were not even roadworthy.
After Nextmove determined that some of the vehicles were not roadworthy during delivery of the Model 3 in spring 2019, the fleet operator and Tesla Germany agreed on a process for defect-free handover and on-schedule repairs. However the electric car manufacturer withdrew this agreement, set an 24-hours-ultimatum for Nextmove and cancelled the order for 85 Tesla Model 3 worth around five million euros after the ultimatum expired.
During the summer months, the electric car rental company made a new attempt to purchase four Tesla Model 3 via the Internet. »The result was that Tesla offered us vehicles as new that had already been registered to a private individual before«, said Nnextmove managing director Stefan Moeller. The acceptance of this Model 3 would have meant that nextmove would neither have been able to claim public subsidy nor claim VAT from the tax office. For leasing companies it is already a high risk to finance Tesla vehicles due to Tesla's volatile pricing policy.
Over the past few months, nextmove has repeatedly informed its customers that there are difficulties with Tesla's deliveries. Now is the time to make public what has happened in the background between Tesla and Nextmove over the past few months, so the fleet company.
