When the first Wireless Congress – Systems and Applications opened its doors 15 years ago, back in 2004, the wireless world looked very different. Wireless Technology was in its infancy, and many applications still emerging. Short Range Wireless Networks and especially Bluetooth, IEEE802.15.4 and ZigBee were at their starting blocks, UMTS 3G networks started the roll-out, and Wireless LAN (WLAN) introduced the IEEE802.11g standard with gross data rates of 54 Mbit/s. Also, the battle for WLAN security was in full swing.
Already at its first year, the Wireless Congress was a premiere event to discuss all the different aspects of wireless communication. I remember presentations spanning the whole range from theoretical research analyses from academia to very practice-oriented presentations from industry, from components to systems, from applications to technologies.
Since then, the wireless world has matured a lot. And so has the Wireless Congress, which – however – is still pursuing the same objectives as 15 years ago. Over all these years, Wireless Congress has continued to be at the leading-edge and is a permanent fixture in the annual calendar of many developers, system designers, technology decision-makers, project managers and wireless system authorities.
This is all the more true given the recent stunning developments. Fundamentally new technologies like Narrowband‑IoT/5G or Low-Power Wide Area Networks (LPWAN) hold the promise to be key enablers for innovative applications and business models in industrial, automotive and medical technologies. Low energy, high security, low latency, high bandwidth are some of the required features.
With the 15th congress program we continue to provide information on novel wireless technologies. The Wireless Congress 2018 will give a comprehensive overview of current wireless standards, protocols and applications, safety and security aspects, system design tips, technology enhancements, standardization and market opportunities. There will be 57 presentations, 6 keynotes, and 8 tutorials in 2 days.
We are very much looking forward to meet you in Munich for the Wireless Congress 2018 and celebrate its 15th anniversary.
