Combining Image and Radar Sensors

ON Semiconductor and the Hungarian start-up AImotive are jointly developing a hardware platform for sensor fusion of HD camera and radar sensor.

Several FPGA-based hardware platforms for sensor fusion are to be developed. ON Semiconductor will contribute its latest HD image and radar sensors with corresponding chipsets for data pre-processing to the project. AImotive will provide hardware accelerators, AI-based algorithms for sensor data evaluation and simulation tools.

According to the two project partners, AI-based sensor fusion in real time can better meet the requirements for ADAS systems than the established architectures in which the different sensor data are not combined. Sensor fusion offers higher measurement accuracy, lower latency and higher reliability. The jointly developed hardware platforms will serve as demonstrators. The cooperation has been agreed up to the prototype status. Time horizons for series production have not been published.
