Charlie Sporck (l.) enjoyed visiting the European branch of National Semiconductor in Fürstenfeldbruck. Shown here with Hans Rohrer (centre), then head of National Semiconductor Europe, and Gil Amelio, who succeeded Charlie Sporck in 1991. The 8-inch fab in South Portland was built during Amelio's tenure. At the beginning of 1996, Amelio took over as CEO of Apple, and Brian Halla was appointed his successor at National. Hans Rohrer held various management positions at National from 1981 and became VP and General Manager of National Semiconductor Europe in 1991. In 1999, he took over the position of President Europe of TSMC.  In 2002, he joined Zetex, where he ended his active career as CEO of the company, which was later acquired by Diodes. Today, he is a member of various supervisory boards, including those of Diodes and the start-up FMC in Dresden. The picture was taken on the occasion of the inauguration of National Semiconductor's new building in Früstenfeldbruck in 1994.
