Eli Health: hormone analysis with your smartphone camera
At CES 2025, the Canadian start-up Eli Health presented the Hormometer - an innovative system for hormone analysis at home. The device, which won the CES Innovation Award, makes it possible for the first time to measure hormones immediately using a saliva sample and smartphone.
The test works using a special disposable test strip that is held in the mouth for 60 seconds. After a 20-minute development time, the results are displayed by colored test lines, similar to a pregnancy test. The evaluation is carried out using a smartphone camera via a special app that uses AI to analyze the color intensity and patterns.
Without a lab: monitor hormone levels at home
Tests for cortisol and progesterone will be available at market launch. Cortisol plays an important role in metabolism, the immune system and stress regulation, while progesterone is particularly relevant for female fertility. Tests for testosterone and oestradiol are currently being developed. The system is primarily intended to simplify regular hormone monitoring, as laboratory analyses are no longer necessary. According to the manufacturer, the accuracy is 97% for cortisol and 94% for progesterone compared to FDA-approved laboratory tests. The hormometer is already FDA-registered and will initially be launched in the USA and Canada as a subscription model.
For physicians and patients, the system offers new possibilities for continuous monitoring of hormone-related health conditions. The real-time data and AI-supported analyses should help to better adapt therapies and detect hormonal changes at an early stage.
