The new platform for brake cylinders is designed to enable OEMs to achieve greater cost efficiency.
For its new brake cylinder platform, ZF has already signed a long-term contract with a major European OEM for its truck and bus range. The innovative platform approach is expected to bring significant safety and cost benefits for commercial vehicle manufacturers.
With its innovative platform approach, the ZF brake cylinder range is designed to offer OEMs worldwide value-added differentiation opportunities. It supports all truck, bus and trailer types. The redesign builds on Wabco's proven brake cylinder technology and focuses on design-to-cost.
OEMs can achieve cost savings because the platform enables economies of scale through standardization. This includes variant reduction of up to 27 percent, parts savings of up to 23 percent, and associated maintenance cost savings. Thanks to smaller component sizes and weights, the brake cylinders require less installation space and thus allow greater assembly flexibility. The quality and robustness of the technology increase reliability and reduce vehicle downtime, which in turn increases cost efficiency.
»Our new brake cylinder platform meets the highest safety and quality standards and offers OEMs significant performance and efficiency benefits, including cost and variant savings. The fact that we have secured our first customer order from a leading manufacturer is a clear endorsement of our approach,« said Nick Rens, Executive Vice President and President EMEA of ZF's Commercial Vehicle Control Systems Division. »Having sold more than 70 million brake cylinders worldwide, this innovation will further extend our global market leadership as a trusted OEM partner with nearly four decades of expertise in brake cylinder technology development.«
»Our new brake cylinder platform is an example of how ZF continues to optimize core products to deliver improvements for customers,« Rens added.
