So Globalfoundries will develop its own packaging techniques?

We have our own pilot lines to develop packaging techniques for silicon photonics, for example. In three to five years' time, we will transfer this into production. OTAS, which specializes in this area, will then be able to do the same.

You want to use the platforms to secure a growing share of the accessible foundry market, which you estimate at 47 billion dollars. Now Globalfoundries' turnover is $6 billion. What is the target over the next few years?

We want to grow to $8 billion in the next two years. Then we will enter a new phase of growth.

And finance it through an IPO?

Yes, that's what we're aiming for in 2022. Until then, because of our growth, we'll be a company whose value will be recognized on the stock market. We can then continue to build on this.

Is there the capacity to achieve the growth we are aiming for?

Only half of our factory in Dresden is equipped. So there is still a lot of room for manoeuvre here. Overall, we can increase the capacities of the existing fabs - Fab 10, Fab in Singapore and Fab in Dresden - by a factor of 1.4.

Back to the process technologies: Do you see that the users are actually going in the direction of the process platforms, and what are they?

With 45RFSoI, we have a process that is ideally suited for the production of RF ICs. With the 12nm FinFET and 22FDX processes, we have other excellent platforms. We are targeting the following markets with our three segments: Automotive, Industrial and Multimarkets with a revenue potential of $24 billion, Wireless with a revenue potential of $12 to $19 billion, and Computer and Wired Infrastructure with a revenue potential of $8 to $10 billion. We are recording an increasing number of design wins in all segments, for example in the next radar generations based on 22FDX-RF, a process that allows very high efficiency.Another example shows us what is also contained in the process platforms: We cooperate extensively with institutes and universities and offer multi-project wafers for this purpose. It's amazing how many ideas emerge when engineers and scientists play with the possibilities of our processes. Some of them have unconventional ideas, but they do great things. This is how real innovations are created. That's exactly what drives us all forward. On the basis of our platforms, a whole new wave of innovations is triggered.
