The Supervisory Board of Volkswagen has appointed Dr. Stefan Sommer as the Board Member with responsibility for Procurement effective latest January 1, 2019. Sommer was CEO of ZF Friedrichshafen until the end of 2017. In his new function he succeeds Dr. Garcia Sanz, who left the company in April.
Dr. Stefan Sommer holds a Ph.D. in engineering, specializing in automation. He began his professional career in 1994 as a development engineer at ITT Automotive Group Europe in Frankfurt am Main. In 1997 he moved to Continental Automotive Systems in Hanover as Director Electronics & Sensor Development. After occupying several positions in the Continental Group, the last of which being Senior Vice President EBS Customer Center, he was appointed to the Board of Directors at ZF Sachs in Schweinfurt, taking charge of the suspension division. In 2010 he became the member of the Board of Management of ZF Friedrichshafen with responsibility for materials management. Sommer was named Deputy Chief Executive Officer of ZF in January 2012, and served as Chief Executive Officer of the supplier from May 2012 until the end of 2017.
