Nebojsa Matic, CEO of MikroElektronika, presents the »EtherCAT Click«, the 1000th click board of the embedded specialist.

With the click boards from MikroElektronika, valuable development time can be saved. Meanwhile, for example, the popular mikroBUS socket can be found on MCU development boards from Microchip, NXP, Infineon and other suppliers. Now another highlight follows with the 1000th click board.

MikroElektronika (MikroE) presents its 1000th Click-Board with the expansion board »EtherCAT Click«. It can be used to equip various processors with an EtherCAT option via the SPI interface. Ten years ago MikroE developed the 16-pin microBUS standard for plug-in sockets on a dev board as well as the corresponding compact Click boards. CEO Nebojsa Matic had realized that all dev boards are fundamentally similar in structure - they all have a microcontroller, power supply, tactile switches, LEDs and pins. The main difference between the dev boards are the so-called peripherals - UART, displays, RTC, relays, ADC or EPROM. With the help of the Click-Boards, engineers can exchange the peripheral components and thus save valuable development time.

MikroE currently introduces a new click board almost every day at 10 a.m. local time. Many manufacturers, for example Microchip, NXP or Infineon as well as distributors like Future Electronics and Avnet have meanwhile integrated the mikroBUS socket on their developer boards.

EtherCAT Click, the 1000th Click board, is equipped with Microchip Technology's »LAN9252«, a 2-port EtherCAT controller with two integrated Ethernet PHYs, each with a 100BASE-TX full-duplex transceiver and suitable for 100 Mbit/s operation. It exchanges data with the MCU via a synchronous SPI/SQI interface and can be operated in digital I/O mode, allowing the user to control or monitor the signals via the EtherCAT master. The Click Board is intended for industrial control, process/plant automation, hydraulic and pneumatic valve systems or power generation, among other applications.
