‘Worldwide unique storage technology': Tesvolt has won the German Founders Award. According to the jury, the Wittenberg-based manufacturer of electrical storage systems for trade and industry is one of the most successful start-ups in Germany in recent years.
Tesvolt produces power storage units with prismatic lithium cells from Samsung SDI based on nickel-manganese-cobalt-oxide. The storage units function both using low voltage and high voltage and can be connected to all energy generators: Sun, wind, water, and combined heat and power - On-Grid as well as Off-Grid. All Tesvolt storage units are produced in their own production facility in Germany.
Daniel Hannemann founded the company together with Simon Schandert in 2014, when the two engineers developed the first prototype storage system financed from savings. SMA Solar Technology supplies the inverters for the Tesvolt storage, Samsung the high-performance lithium-based prismatic cells, which are also used in electric cars. "Today, our storage systems for commercial and industrial applications are sold in all continents," reports Hannemann. "And the market continues to grow; the sales potential for battery manufacturers in Europe is already forecast to reach 250 billion euros by 2025."
The jury praised Tesvolt's power storage units as a unique product worldwide. "What makes our storage systems so extraordinary is our self-developed battery control," says Simon Schandert, co-founder of Tesvolt. The battery control ensures that the battery cells are always charged and discharged in an ideal fashion. That active cell balancing is not limited to the cells within a battery module, but that the various battery modules are also optimized with each other is unique worldwide. The Active Battery Optimizer monitors the temperature, voltage, and state of charge of each individual cell or battery module, which increases the service life of the cells. In this way, Tesvolt's power storage units achieve a service life of up to 30 years. This corresponds to around 8,000 full charge cycles with a deep discharge (DoD) of 100 percent. At 92 percent, Tesvolt storage units also achieve one of the highest overall system efficiencies on the market. "Other storage systems on the market still lack cost-effectiveness, while Tesvolt storage systems pay for themselves within a few years even without subsidies.
The German Founder Prize is awarded every year by ZDF, stern, Sparkasse, and Porsche.
