TDK and LG Innotek Partner on Physical AI Sensors

TDK and LG Innotek have formed a strategic partnership to develop sensing solutions for physical AI. The companies will combine optical modules with sensor technologies to create next-generation vision and tactile sensing modules for humanoid robots and other AI-driven systems.

Focus on vision and tactile sensing

The partners plan to jointly develop next-generation vision sensing modules and tactile sensing modules. TDK will contribute technologies including its InvenSense inertial and position sensors as well as microphones, which will be integrated into LG Innotek’s sensing modules.

According to the companies, the combined solution is intended to improve recognition performance and expand the functionality of future robotic systems. The modules are designed to serve as the “eyes” and “skin” of robots.

Joint research and development

The partnership includes joint research on integrating multiple sensor technologies into advanced sensing modules for physical AI applications.

“In the robotics industry, multi-sensing (the integration of numerous sensors) is expected to emerge as a key capability. Through our collaboration with TDK, which offers a broad portfolio of sensor technologies, we aim to help shape the ecosystem for core robotic components,” said LG Innotek CEO Moon Hyuksoo.

TDK President and CEO Noboru Saito added: “We are pleased for TDK to join hands with LG Innotek, a world-class leader in physical AI sensing. By combining TDK’s diverse fundamental technologies and sensors with LG Innotek’s core capabilities, we will add value for customers and bring truly revolutionary products to the global market.”
