RISC-V hits the ground running

In a new analysis of RISC-V by Semico Research it says In the communications segment alone, RISC-V is expected to grow by an average of 209 percent per year (CAGR) until 2025.

Functions as finished IP blocks are an integral part of the semiconductor industry. In its new analysis, Semico Research has this time taken a look at the RISC-V core. Jim Feldhan, President of Semico Research, explains that Semico has identified 35 markets in cooperation with the RISC-V Foundation and is developing a TAM and a SAM for each of these markets. The market study focuses on four semiconductor groups which, in his view, can benefit particularly strongly from the use of RISC-V processor cores: "Advanced Performance Multicore SoCs, "Value Multicore SoC", "Basic SoCs" and "FPGAs".

In addition to the CAGR of 206 percent in the communications market, Semico Research's analysts have also predicted the following interesting points:

  • RISC-V will account for 6 percent of processor IP sales between today and 2025.
  • SAM for the automotive market will grow by 160 percent per year during the forecast period.
  • The TAM for 5G infrastructure will reach 19 million units by 2025.
  • The CAGR for RISC-V processor cores will grow by an average of 160 percent per year between 2018 and 2025.
