In order to minimize the risk of infection, it is better to use your own car, bicycle or motorcycle rather than public transport. In order to keep the risk of infection as low as possible for those who are necessarily dependent on public transport.
Against the background of the spread of the coronavirus, the German Future Bicycle Association, the German Motorcycle Industry Association and the German Association of the Automotive Industry have issued a joint statement. The use of cars, bikes and motorcycles can minimize the risk of infection.
Containing the virus is the most important goal for the next few weeks. Especially to avoid overloading the health care system. At the same time, people need to be able to cover the necessary distances to work, to the doctor, to shopping or to care for relatives safely. Even in times of crisis, personal mobility stands for stability and continuity. In view of the rapidly spreading coronavirus COVID-19, the German Future Bicycle Association Bundesverband Zukunft Fahrrad, BVZF), the German Motorcycle Industry Association (Industrie-Verband Motorrad, IVM) and the German Association of the Automotive Industry (Verband der Automobilindustrie, VDA) are calling for a risk-conscious and responsible approach to the use of cars, bicycles, scooters, motorcycles and public transport. Health has the highest priority. Using the own car, bicycle, scooter or motorbike increases safety from infection and can make a decisive contribution to reducing the risk of infection. The fewer passengers are compelled to use public transport, the safer it becomes for those for whom there is no alternative.
In order to maintain mobility and overcome the crisis, open car and bicycle repair shops and service stations are essential for people and society.
The danger to health and life must be met with a sense of responsibility and consideration, according to the industry associations. With this initiative, they want to contribute to minimising the risk of infection and at the same time ensure the mobility of the population, which is essential for life.
