Location-related information enables retailers to supply their customers with precisely tailored offers on site via apps and to analyse the logistics chain.
With its acquisition of Beaconinside shares, Osram is further expanding its digital business in the area of location-based services. Osram is acquiring a minority stake of the Berlin-based company Beaconinside that develops IoT solutions for retail, smart city, and logistics sectors.
"In combination with our Lightelligence IoT platform and our sensor technology, such as our Beacon portfolio, the Beaconinside solutions enable sales-supporting advertising campaigns, detailed customer analyses, and intelligent monitoring of goods flows in logistics," explains Stefan Kampmann, chief technology officer of Osram Licht AG.
An attractive and future-oriented market because "retail companies are confronted with continuous and significant changes in purchasing behavior," says Michael Kappler, managing director of Beaconinside GmbH, founded in 2014. "We enable retailers to better understand this rapidly changing customer behavior in the sales area and to derive the relevant customer approach from it in a targeted manner for each location". With Osram as a partner, it will also be possible to meet international demand more quickly in future.
From an organizational point of view, Osram's minority interest is also noticeable: In addition to the two founders Michael Kappler and Cornelius Rabsch, Osram manager and smart retail expert Michael Höge will be a member of the management board at Beaconinside. Other investors, such as the former managing director of Wall AG, Daniel Wall, and Paulus Neef, co-founder of Pixelpark, are also involved in the company.
