According to analysts at IHS Markit, the number of TFT LCD screens used in cars will fall by five percent this year to 156 million units compared to 2018. This is mainly due to the effects of the trade war between the USA and China. "After the 2008 financial crisis, automotive TFT LCDs grew year on year, reaching 162 million units last year. Now the higher US tariffs on Chinese cars and automotive components have led to a decline," says Hiroshi Hayase, Senior Director, Small-Medium Display at IHS Markit. However, he expects growth to resume in 2020 as autonomous cars and new safety features result in vehicles being equipped with an increasing number of screens.
