Mercedes Withdraws in 2022

After Audi and BMW, now also Mercedes-Benz: The Swabian carmaker announced today that it will end its success story in the ABB FIA Formula E as a participant and manufacturer at the end of season 8 in August next year.

On the factory side, Mercedes wants to concentrate fully on Formula 1 as a »development laboratory« for series production after withdrawing from Formula E. Just last weekend, the manufacturer secured the world championship titles in the drivers' and team standings in Formula E with Nyck de Vries.

For the racing series, Mercedes' withdrawal is a further setback. Previously, Audi and BMW had already said their goodbyes at the end of the past season. Mercedes had only been involved with its own team since 2019. In the future, the resources from the Formula E project are to flow into the faster electrification of the car brand, which wants to become fully electric before the end of the decade.

The latest world championship success »will go down as a historic milestone in the long racing history of Mercedes-Benz«, said Toto Wolff, the automaker's head of motorsport. »Now we will give everything to ensure that we successfully complete our Formula E adventure in Season 8«, the Austrian added.
