Markt&Technik: What are currently the most important trends driving the development of embedded systems, in your opinion?

Philippe Pichot: The most important trends driving the development of embedded systems include the integration of AI in vehicles, particularly in Software-Defined Vehicles and autonomous driving technologies. The evolution from Generative AI to Agentive AI and eventually Physical AI is significant. Additionally, advancements in quantum computing, such as diamond enabling quantum computing at room temperature, are paving the way for smaller, portable devices. The focus on corporate sustainability initiatives and government policies providing incentives for new technologies also plays a crucial role.

What importance do you attach to measurement technology?

Measurement technology is critical as it ensures reliability and efficiency in various applications, particularly in power management and data communications. It supports evolving compliance standards and the need for increased yield and throughput in testing. As industries become more data-driven and automated, the role of measurement technology in providing accurate and timely data will be paramount. The shift towards higher power testing and the need for advanced testing solutions in sectors like e-mobility and renewable energy further emphasize its importance. The ability to validate closed-loop systems and support high-speed serial standards will also enhance the relevance of measurement technology in embedded systems.

In which areas do you see the greatest potential for innovation?

The greatest potential for innovation lies in renewable energy solutions, particularly in solar energy and battery technologies. Additionally, the integration of AI in various sectors, including automotive and industrial applications, presents significant opportunities for innovation. The growth of edge AI and the development of high-performance hardware for data communications, including RF instruments and high-speed serial standards, also indicate areas ripe for innovation.

How will the measurement technology sector benefit from developments in the embedded sector in the short, medium, and long term?

In the short term, the measurement technology sector will benefit from increased demand for testing solutions as industries adopt more complex embedded systems, particularly in power and renewable energy sectors. In the medium term, as AI and automation become more prevalent, measurement technology will evolve to support higher performance and efficiency standards, including the need for high bandwidth and high-power testing. In the long term, advancements in embedded systems, particularly in power management and renewable energy, will drive the need for sophisticated measurement solutions, leading to continuous innovation and growth in the measurement technology sector.
