Fraunhofer IDMT joins the Alliance Vision and adds a completely new field of competence.

14 members of the Alliance Vision have their core competence in optical metrology, image processing or machine vision. The 15th member no longer fits into this scheme. The Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Media Technology (IDMT) combines sound analyses with machine learning methods and thus offers new methods for contactless, acoustic quality assurance for industrial production. By joining the institute, the field of competence is expanded to include acoustic quality testing.

Alliance leader Michael Sackewitz sees this step as »absolutely practical«, because where optical methods reach their limits today, acoustic analysis can often be used. This can be the case, for example, if the sensors cannot get close enough to the test part or machine, or if test parts have already been installed.

The Alliance vision serves to exchange knowledge and experience from different areas of competence and to cooperate in projects. The goal is to make new methods from image processing and non-contact measurement and testing technology applicable under industrial conditions.
