Research vessels that collect and process data (e.g., geological measurements of the seabed) require high-performance computers that must be protected from moisture, extreme temperatures, and vibration. Another problem is the limited space on ships and often inflexible access to the data. To work effectively, however, researchers and staff must have access to all data from different locations on board, while simultaneously protecting the equipment from the weather conditions on the high seas, without annoying delays.

With its KVM solutions (Kernel-based Virtual Machine), the KVM specialist IHSE outsources computers and special devices, that are often expensive, into a protected environment with simultaneous real-time access, just as if all computers and devices were currently located at the respective workstation. Technicians and researchers can collaborate on projects, share resources, and access all data according to their access rights. The workstations are reduced to the necessary input and output devices.
