"Fujitsu's first-class motherboard portfolio is ideally complemented by our IoT software and services for IoT, Industry 4.0 and Artificial Intelligence," explains Carlos Queiroz, COO of Kontron parent company S&T AG. "In addition, Kontron knows the requirements of its existing customers and is sending a clear signal that it is a future-oriented employer in Bavaria.
The Fujitsu Group announced the closure of its Augsburg site by the end of September 2020 in October last year. The transaction is subject to antitrust approvals. The transfer of the operational business of Fujitsu Technology Solutions to Kontron is planned for October 2019. Kontron will also offer employment opportunities to suitable Fujitsu Technology Solutions employees with relevant qualifications in research, development, production and sales.
Kontron intends to continue the existing Fujitsu mainboard business at the high level of expertise and skills that customers have come to know and appreciate. Rupert Lehner, Head of Fujitsu Central Europe and EMEIA Products emphasizes: "With Kontron, a recognized provider of embedded computing is taking over our motherboard business. We are delighted that this move will allow our customers to benefit from a continuation of our high quality portfolio. For them, the decision means continuity and planning security, and it will also help to preserve jobs in Augsburg".
