Infineon is expanding its cooperation with Vietnamese e-vehicle manufacturer VinFast: The two companies plan to establish a joint application competence center for electric mobility to help VinFast develop smart mobility solutions.
The so-called VinFast-Infineon Competence Center (VICC) is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2023. New mobility solutions from VinFast and corresponding requirements for semiconductors are to be discussed there in the early development phase to support the stabilization of supply chains. Initially, the VICC will focus on the development of a new electric powertrain for VinFast's electric platforms. This is in line with VinFast's strategy to connect globally to succeed internationally with electric vehicles.
Infineon will provide technical support and semiconductor selection advice to VinFast with its system understanding and broad product and technology portfolio - covering both conventional technologies and wide bandgap semiconductors such as silicon carbide (SiC). The competence center's equipment will include a laboratory with test and measurement equipment to enable rapid product validation.
»VinFast is committed to developing smart mobility solutions for a sustainable future,« said Le Thi Thu Thuy, vice president of Vingroup and chairman of VinFast's board of directors. »We are delighted to extend our partnership with Infineon, the market leader in semiconductors for electromobility. With advanced products and solutions from Infineon, we aim to increase our production efficiency and achieve our business goals faster.«
»Electromobility is growing rapidly, that is undisputed,« says Peter Schäfer, executive vice president and chief marketing officer of Infineon's Automotive Division. Market researchers predict that in five years, at least every second new car will be fully or partially electrified. »Infineon wants to drive this development, with strong implementation and determined partners like VinFast. We will accompany them on their electrification journey and support the further development of their electric platform designs.«
The two companies have been working together for more than three years. VinFast already integrates numerous Infineon solutions in electric vehicles, such as in the inverter for electric motors, the onboard charger and DC/DC converter for the electric powertrain, and components for E/E architectures.
Infineon and VinFast announced the establishment of the application competence center at Infineon's OktoberTech Asia Pacific 2022 Technology Forum in Singapore. OctoberTech is Infineon's global event format that aims to highlight how future technologies are driving decarbonization and digitalization. The event takes place in regional innovation centers and brings together startups, business leaders and experts.
