Both Infineon's SiC innovations in the automotive sector and Foxconn's know-how in automotive systems will be applied. Under the MoU between the two companies, Infineon and Foxconn will collaborate on the implementation of SiC technology in high-power automotive applications such as traction inverters, on-board chargers and DC-DC converters.

The jointly developed EV solutions are expected to excel in performance and efficiency. This will be achieved by combining Infineon's system understanding, technical support and SiC product offering with Foxconn's electronics design and manufacturing expertise and system integration capability.

Joint application centre planned in Taiwan

In addition, the two companies plan to open an application centre in Taiwan to further expand their cooperation. This centre will focus on optimising vehicle applications, including smart cabin applications, advanced driver assistance systems and autonomous driving applications.

In addition, applications in the field of electromobility such as battery management systems and traction inverters will also be developed. The cooperation covers a wide range of Infineon's automotive products, including sensors, microcontrollers, power semiconductors, high-performance memory for special applications, human-machine interfaces and safety solutions. The application centre is expected to open later in 2023.

Further development of e-mobility required

»The automotive industry is changing significantly. The rapid growth of the e-car market and the associated demand for more range and performance make it necessary to further develop e-mobility,« says Peter Schiefer, President of Infineon's Automotive Division. »We offer products of high quality and high innovation. This has made us a valued semiconductor partner for our customers. Together with Foxconn, we want to write a new chapter in electromobility.«

»We are excited to collaborate with Infineon and are confident that this cooperation will lead to optimised architecture, product performance, cost efficiency and high system integration. This will enable us to offer our customers the most competitive solutions for the automotive industry,« said Jun Seki, Chief Strategy Officer for Electric Vehicles at Foxconn.
