Intel plans to announce by the end of the year where eight large chip fabs will be built in mainland Europe by 2030.
Intel had announced investments of up to 80 billion euros in Europe at the IAA Mobility auto show on Tuesday. Of that, about 30 percent is to be covered by public aid, Gelsinger said. This state support is necessary in order to be able to compete, especially with Asian competitors, he said. Gelsinger also made it clear that it must also pay off for Intel if the U.S. company brings the latest chip technologies to Europe.
