Anritsu has introduced a test solution for Hybrid eCall systems that automates complex certification procedures, including communication system switching and multi-stage test sequences.
A one-button operation replaces manual workflows and reduces overall test time by around half compared to conventional approaches, while improving reproducibility and reliability.
The solution complies with the EN 18052:2025 certification standard and has been certified following evaluation by cetecom advanced GmbH. It is already in use at certification test houses and by automotive manufacturers.
Hybrid eCall certification requires complex setups due to the interaction of multiple communication standards and staged test processes. Traditional methods are therefore resource-intensive and depend heavily on operator expertise. This creates challenges during both development and certification.
The automated approach addresses these issues by enabling repeatable, error-free execution of standard-compliant test cases. Even less experienced operators can perform tests under consistent conditions, supporting uniform test quality. The system is designed to support all phases of in-vehicle system development, from initial testing to final certification.
eCall systems automatically alert emergency services in the event of a traffic accident. When onboard sensors detect a collision, the in-vehicle system sends location and vehicle data to a Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP), allowing responders to act quickly.
While conventional eCall relies on 2G and 3G networks, Next Generation eCall (NG eCall) uses 4G technology, enabling faster and more stable communication as well as additional features such as image transmission. The European Union mandated NG eCall starting January 1, 2026.
However, since 4G coverage is not universal, Hybrid eCall systems switch between NG eCall and legacy eCall depending on network availability to ensure reliable operation across regions.
The solution simulates a PSAP environment required for developing Hybrid eCall-compliant in-vehicle systems. It is based on the MD8475B Signalling Tester and includes software options for eCall, NG eCall, and Hybrid eCall.
A single system executes all standard-compliant Hybrid eCall tests without requiring multiple software tools. It also supports Single Radio Voice Call Continuity (SRVCC), allowing seamless handover of VoLTE calls from LTE to 2G or 3G networks.
