For the Mioty Alliance all the embedded world’s a stage

At embedded world 2020, the Mioty Alliance announced its foundation. In an interview, Andreas Keiger, Chairman of the Board of the Mioty Alliance, talks about what has happened since then, about new developments – and why member companies are in the spotlight at this year’s Mioty booth.

?   Mr. Keiger, what has transpired since the founding of the Mioty Alliance in 2020?

!   Andreas Keiger: In terms of technology, the Mioty Alliance has developed numerous advanced specifications to ensure interoperability, such as the application layer specification and the test specification for certification. In addition, we are working with other standardization bodies such as the OMS (Open Metering System Group e. V.) to implement industry-specific end-to-end solutions.

?   What kind of response have you had to the creation of the Mioty Alliance?

!   Keiger: We are increasingly seeing the technical deficits and difficulties that our colleagues in the market are facing. This is also being acknowledged more and more by users. In particular, scalability is a challenge for applications involving large networks, such as those required for smart metering and smart cities, which can best be solved with Mioty.

?   What is your roadmap, what developments will the Mioty Alliance focus on?

!   Keiger: Now that the alliance has established itself in Europe, we are focusing on opening up new markets, both geographically and in terms of specific applications. This requires adapting to a range of international regulations and continuously implementing new requirements technically. In this way Mioty technology will continue to evolve, but will maintain backward compatibility, as is the case with other radio standards. This is what the alliance stands for.

?   What is the Mioty Alliance doing to support embedded developers who plan to use Mioty for wireless communication in embedded systems?

!   Keiger: Alliance members benefit from the technical exchange in the technical committee and the working groups we have on many specific topics. These members, in turn, also offer a broad portfolio of gateways, radio modules, and software stacks that developers can draw upon to advance their own solutions.

?   What do you have planned for the Mioty Alliance booth this year?

!   Keiger: We would like to invite visitors to experience how Mioty has developed since its foundation. For this purpose, on all three days we will offer users the opportunity to talk to Mioty specialists about various applications in the different market segments. The motto is »meet the expert«. In our case studies we will show applications that have been realized with solutions from our member companies.

Our members and their expertise form the core of the Mioty Alliance. Every single one of them is committed to his or her Mioty product, his or her solution. This time we take that literally and present not only the product, but also the company behind it. We are setting the stage for our members, so to speak: Under the program item »member solutions«, our members will present their individual projects in interviews and will then be able to exchange ideas with the show visitors directly at the Mioty booth.
