The Simatic S7-1500V is a purely virtual PLC. It is based on the Simatic S7-1500 in terms of function and operation, and is completely hardware-independent. The virtual PLC is downloaded similar to an app and integrated directly into the IT environment. According to Siemens, this allows previously unused potential of digitalisation to be exploited.
The virtual PLC is no longer tied to a specific hardware. Users can access the controller flexibly and from anywhere via a mobile device and use all the functions of the Simatic S7-1500 digitally. The number of instances can also be increased or reduced as required. Users therefore only ever pay for as many controllers as they actually need.
The virtual controller is fully compatible with the TIA Portal. This means that users can fall back on familiar tools and build on projects that have already been created in the TIA Portal. In addition, they can now use OT solutions that they have used in the past in an IT environment and benefit from their advantages without having to do without familiar structures.
The virtual PLC is also integrated into Industrial Edge. This enables users to operate applications centrally and to automate process steps in a data-centric and software-based manner. But complete processes and costs can also be optimised with the Simatic S7-1500V thanks to IT mechanisms.
