Edge AI IPC with Intel processor and SiMa.ai AI chip
Kontron America has announced a strategic partnership with AI chip manufacturer SiMa.ai. The first result is the “KBox A-151 EAI” edge AI IPC developed by Kontron, which integrates not only an Intel processor but also SiMa.ai’s “MLSoC Modalix” AI chip.
The KBox A-151 EAI is an industrial edge AI computer designed specifically for multimodal control and autonomous systems. Its dual-processor architecture combines 13th-generation Intel Core or Intel Atom processors with deterministic AI inference provided by the “MLSoC Modalix”. The MLSoC (Machine Learning System-on-Chip) covers the entire AI/ML pipeline and delivers more than 50 TOPS of dedicated AI performance.
The fanless, passively cooled housing of the “KBox A-151 EAI” is designed for industrial automation, energy, medical technology and smart transport applications, and boosts the computer’s efficiency without thermal throttling. The edge AI IPC supports real-time video analysis, GenAI, LLM, LMM and CNN workloads, as well as complete end-to-end vision pipelines and the integration of multiple sensors.
Thanks to seamless integration with the “Palette SDK” (Software Development Kit) and the “Edgematic” tool for creating, testing and deploying AI/ML pipelines – both from SiMa.ai – customers can quickly implement complex multimodal models using standard machine learning frameworks. This reduces time-to-market without the need for costly redesigns.
Partnership for physical AI
The collaboration between Kontron and SiMa.ai focuses on the implementation of physical AI at the edge. The “KBox A-151 EAI” was developed for multimodal real-time interaction and combines image, audio and sensor data into directly usable information. Flexible I/O, scalable memory and industrial certifications make the Edge AI IPC suitable for demanding environments. The integration of SiMa.ai’s MLSoC capabilities into Kontron’s Edge platform enables both high AI performance and the reliability required for industrial operation.
