Siemens Smart Infrastructure has partnered with Ford to develop the Charge Station Pro, which has been certified to the recently expanded Underwriters Laboratories (UL) 9741 standard, an industry-recognised benchmark that ensures compliance with relevant safety requirements. With a peak power of 19.2 kW, the new charging station offers the highest rated power currently available for a Level 2 charging unit, according to the supplier.

The Charge Station Pro forms the basis for Ford's Intelligent Backup Power, a system that makes the automaker's F-150 Lightning the first electric pickup truck to become an interactive part of the household and can be used as a power generation source during power outages.

In the future, firmware updates for the charger may provide additional features that allow customers to interact even more with the power grid.

»Together with Ford, Siemens is not only helping to accelerate the use of electric vehicles in homes, but also empowering drivers to take control of their energy future,« said John DeBoer, Head Siemens eMobility in North America. »The technology behind this charger makes home charging more sustainable, reliable and easy.«
