Continental's V-shaped display is being integrated into several vehicle models of a global Asian vehicle manufacturer. Thanks to the ergonomic V-shaped arrangement of the instrument cluster and central display under a cover glass, information can be grasped more easily.

With this V-shaped display, the technology company Continental is further advancing the success of large, seamless and individually shaped displays that enrich the user experience as a decisive surface in the cockpit.

»We are delighted to have won another series order for a state-of-the-art display solution that once again demonstrates our expertise in the field of user experience,« emphasizes Philipp von Hirschheydt, head of the User Experience business unit at Continental. »Our V-shaped display offers exceptional comfort and ergonomics for drivers, simplifies the collection of important driving information and provides an appealing two-in-one solution. It is suitable for a wide range of vehicle variants.« The company's order intake for display solutions now exceeds 5.5 billion euros.

How is the V-shaped display constructed?

The V-shape consists of flat displays with backlighting covered by curved glass. The solution extends from the driver's area to the center console and visually combines the two screens of the instrument cluster and the central display under one surface.
The radius and angle of the display solution are centered on the driver's perspective so that the driver or passenger is at the center of the information output. The ergonomics of the display make it easier for him or her to perceive relevant information more quickly, which reduces distraction and can make driving safer. The start of production is planned for 2023.

V-shaped display meets need for highly customized designs

Using a special bonding technology called optical bonding, there is no visible boundary or gap between the instrument cluster and the embedded central display, resulting in a seamless appearance. The freestanding design of the display allows it to be harmoniously integrated into curved lines of elegant dashboard shapes.

Due to the special radius created by the V-shaped arrangement, all display content is shown at almost the same viewing distance, making content more comfortable to read. The display solution thus creates a holistic experience that not only ensures special user-friendliness, but can also further enhance driving safety.
