The Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) from ZF should be able to drive up to 100 km in real operation with one battery charge. ZF presented the EVplus concept for PHEVs at the IAA – including the vehicle.

In Germany, more than 88 percent of commuters travel less than 100 km by car every day. A PHEV can cover these distances purely electrically - with only one battery charge. ZF proves this with the EVplus concept vehicle, whose purely electric range is more than 100 km.

The EVplus concept vehicle is based on a production car with 8-speed plug-in hybrid transmission by ZF. ZF engineers have installed a more powerful battery with a gross capacity of 35 KWh in the mid-size sedan. With 65 kW continuous output and peak power of up to 95 kW, the output of the electric machine integrated into the transmission corresponds to the standard version. In real operation, the ZF concept vehicle thus achieves more than 100 km purely electrically with a single battery charge - at any time of year and with active consumers such as air conditioning or heating.

Das EVplus-Konzeptfahrzeug von ZF fährt mehr als 100 km rein elektrisch mit einer Batterieladung – zu jeder Jahreszeit und mit aktiven Verbrauchern wie Klimaanlage oder Heizung.

The increased purely electric range of EVplus also improves user behavior: Drivers of current PHEVs often do not charge the battery in the first place. The reason for this: The insufficient purely electric range in everyday life. With EVplus, on the other hand, a single charge in the garage at home or at work is sufficient for daily journeys. City centres can be driven on with EVplus purely electrically and thus without local nitrogen oxide emissions and with significantly lower particulate matter values. Corresponding driving strategies and control mechanisms - keyword »geofencing« - will ensure in the foreseeable future that PHEVs in the city are actually electrically powered.

»For us, EVplus marks the paradigm shift in plug-in hybrids,« explains Stephan von Schuckmann, Head of the ZF Car Driveline Technology Division. »Thanks to EVplus, next-generation plug-in hybrids are electric vehicles that are suitable for everyday use.«

»EVplus offers consistent electric mobility in everyday life. If you want to drive longer distances with the same vehicle, you can do so without forced charging pauses and the risk of stopping,« explains Dr. Michael Ebenhoch, Head of Development in the Car Driveline Technology Division.
