This year, Prof. Dr. Jan Bauer of Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences took over as chair of the electronic displays Conference from Prof. Dr. Karlheinz Blankenbach, who shaped the event for many years with great expertise and dedication. This seamless transition underscores the conference’s strong scientific foundation and ensures its continued development in a dynamic market environment. Prof. Bauer builds on the successful work of his predecessor and is introducing new initiatives to further expand the conference’s significance as the leading platform for the display community.

»As the new Chairman of the electronic displays Conference, I am particularly pleased with the depth of content in the presentations and the intensive professional exchange within our community. Many presentations have shown that display technologies are currently evolving primarily in a gradual manner – new momentum is emerging, particularly in energy-efficient low-power displays and sustainability, which will play a central role in the future of the industry,« said Chairman Bauer.

The conference program took off with a keynote session featuring five presentations by renowned display market researchers on current market and technology trends – ranging from the global display industry and the entire display ecosystem to application areas such as in-car media. In their keynote presentations, market researchers Robert O’Brien (Counterpoint Research) and Lisa Li (Sigmaintell Consulting) addressed changes in the global display market – driven by increasing deglobalization trends, shifting regional demand, and the Trump administration’s tariffs. And Franziska Braun from the Fraunhofer Institute IAO presented a study on how media needs in vehicles are changing due to AI and autonomous driving.

The program then featured 15 presentation sessions across eight topic areas:

  • Automotive UX & Cockpit Interaction
  • Business Strategy & Supply Chain
  • Hardware Performance, Materials & Production
  • Metrology, Legibility & Testing
  • IVI Connectivity & System Architectures
  • Market, Sustainability Strategy & Product Practice
  • Low-Power & Retail Displays
  • XR & AR Display Systems

On the second day of the conference, Chairman Prof. Dr. Jan Bauer presented the “Best Poster Award,” the winner of which is selected from among all the posters displayed in the poster area in the conference foyer. This year’s winner is Lukas Eger from Pforzheim University. He received the Best Poster Award for his poster on “The Helmholtz-Kohlrausch Effect: A Comparison of Perceived Brightness vs. Measured Luminance for Modern Display Technologies.”

Immediately following the award ceremony, another keynote session concluded the program – featuring four presentations on advanced displays, ranging from the current state of display driver semiconductor technology (Dr. Jürgen Daleiden, Globalfoundries) to the current definition of display and HMI design (Stacy Wu, Omdia) and the use of AI-enhanced displays in the digital cockpits of modern SDVs (Dr. Siegfried Michael Dirr, Elektrobit Automotive) to the presentation of BMW’s new Panoramic iDrive display and control concept (Dr. Lutz Lorenz, BMW).

For anyone interested who was unable to attend the electronic displays Conference 2026: The next edition is already planned and will take place on March 17 and 18 as part of embedded world Exhibition&Conference 2027 in Nuremberg.
