The Polish company Green Cell presents the Habu e-car charger with 11 kW charging power. All of Habu's electronics are housed in the plug. It is thus the first design on the market that integrates all components in the handle and thus does not require the module known as a »brick«.
In addition, the Habu, developed entirely in Poland, has a number of features to enhance the user experience, such as the possibility of remote control via app or a function display on the built-in LCD screen.
Engineers at Krakow-based technology company Green Cell built all the electronics into the handy Type 2 and CEE-16-A 5P plugs. This makes the device smaller and slimmer than a standard charger with an ICCB module. Habu is 7 m long, including the cable, and weighs 3 kg.
The device can be plugged into a 16 A outlet at home. Thanks to its compact size, it can also be easily taken on trips and used at the destination.
Built-in power supply functions turn two devices - a wallbox and a mobile charger - into one. The charger generates a maximum charging power of 11 kW. This can also be reduced to 7.2 kW or 3.6 kW to match the charging speed of the batteries to the current demand.
For user convenience, the Type 2 plug sends haptic signals, such as to indicate that it is properly plugged in. It is also equipped with an LED flashlight, making it easier to start charging even in a dark garage.
The LCD integrated into the charger's plug allows direct access to the most important readings, such as the current charging power, the remaining duration of the charging process or the amount of electricity already charged. Thanks to the dedicated cell phone app GC App, Habu users can access this information at any time, even when they are not standing next to the car. They can also remotely change the charger's power or view statistics. The app provides an estimate of the range possible after charging.
A function to add tariffs helps control the cost of charging. In addition, notifications inform about the charging process as well as possible errors. Wireless communication with the charger is enabled by a built-in GSM and Bluetooth module. The application is constantly being expanded and updated.
Habu is equipped with features that facilitate the charging process for Tesla S, 3, X and Y. This is made possible by a radio module integrated into the Type 2 connector and a function button. A long press unlocks the charging port remotely and charging can be completed without having to do it manually through the vehicle's menu or reaching for the phone. The button also allows the plug to be quickly unplugged from the charging port when charging is complete.
Habu is constantly being enhanced with updates and additional components. New features will be added as the application evolves. In the coming months, the charger will be equipped with automatic schedules or load management, among other features.
The Habu charger's construction is made of durable materials that protect it from damage. The Type 2 plug meets the IP67 standard, while the rest of the device meets the IP55 standard. The charger is resistant to water, drops or heavy loads (for example, when a car drives over it). It can be used in temperatures ranging from -25 to +45 degrees Celsius. Thanks to the A + DC RCD circuit breaker, users are also protected against electric shock.
