Polestar has released a second teaser image of its upcoming Polestar 3 electric performance SUV, which is set to be unveiled in 2022. Polestar 3 is not only the company's first SUV, but also the first Polestar vehicle to be built in the US.
Production of the Polestar 3 will take place at a plant in Charleston, South Carolina. »We will build in America for Americans,« said Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar. »The Polestar 3 is expected to launch in 2022 and will be a premium electric performance SUV that defines SUV design in the electric age.«
Ingenlath invited investors and press to a series of events in New York to present Polestar's vision and brand and growth goals. He told the audience that the Polestar 3 will be one of the most climate-friendly cars ever. Equipped with the industry-leading LiDAR sensor from U.S. technology company Luminar and centralized NVIDIA computing power, the vehicle is expected to enable autonomous highway driving.
The premium SUV market is the fastest growing segment in the U.S. automotive industry and is expected to be the area that makes the fastest transition to all-electric vehicles.
Also making its debut in New York City was Polestar Precept, the company's manifesto concept vehicle that previews the future of Polestar's design, technology and sustainability. Precept will now tour nationally through early next year, visiting Polestar retail locations across the United States.
Thomas Ingenlath said he believes there is a fundamental difference between Polestar and many other electric car companies: »We are not a virtual company waiting to build factories and sell cars. We are a real company that is already producing and marketing cars around the world. Our two award-winning vehicles are on the road in 14 markets around the world, and we expect to sell about 29,000 vehicles this year.«
Thomas Ingenlath also underscored the company's established production and distribution capabilities, explaining that Polestar plans to launch a new vehicle every year for the next three years, starting with the Polestar 3. Likewise, the brand will expand its presence to at least 30 global markets by the end of 2023. The company then plans to achieve sales of 290,000 vehicles by 2025.
