Project ideas for the Pi Zero:
This origami lamp doubles as a nightlight and was built using Snapology Origami. The Raspberry Pi Zero W powers a NeoPixel ring from Adafruit and keeps maker Russell Eveleigh asleep past 5am. Russell has coded different sequences to make the NeoPixel lights glow a soothing blue at bedtime and then light up to sunny yellow when it's time to wake the kids.
A retro gaming device hidden in an Altoids tin. The Raspberry Pi Zero runs RetroPie software, and the game can be played for up to five hours. MintyPi is a nice, simple do-it-yourself project, and you can find links for the parts at sudomod.com. Good luck finding an Altoids tin, most of which are available in the UK.
Fresh Coffee Monitor: Caleb Brewer made his office coffee maker smart by building an alarm system that sends notifications when someone brews a new pot. A waterproof temperature sensor constantly monitors the coffee pot, and the Raspberry Pi Zero W turns on a warning light and sends a Slack notification when a new hot coffee is ready.
