Volocopter »Technology Pioneer« of the World Economic Forum

So könnte der Landeplatz für die Flugtaxis von Volocopter einmal aussehen.

Emission-free, autonomous air taxis for megacities: For this approach, the World Economic Forum has selected Volocopter as »Technology Pioneers«.

The "Technology Pioneers" of the World Economic Forum are companies of various stages of maturity from all over the world. They work with the latest technologies and innovations that have the potential to have a significant impact on the business world and our society.

The flying taxis of the German company Volocopter are electrically powered aircraft that can take off and land vertically (eVTOL). Their high level of safety is based on multiple redundancy of all flight-critical systems. They resemble helicopters in appearance, but are based on drone technology and can fly passengers up to 30 km far. The Volocopter was developed specifically as a flying taxi for inner-city areas. The company recently published a white paper that describes the market-driven motivations for the design.

"Volocopter and the other Technology Pioneers are leading the way in using new technologies to transform their industries. We see great potential for Volocopter to find solutions to the global mobility challenges and improve our society sustainably," says Fulvia Montresor, Head of Technology Pioneers of the World Economic Forum.

Due to its selection as Technology Pioneer, Volocopter CEO Florian Reuter will attend the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting of the New Champions, also known as the "Summer Davos", from July 1 - 3 in Dalian, China. "Our technology can be used in a variety of scenarios: In order to equalize traffic in megacities, as emergency medical supplies or to transport heavy goods. This versatility enables changes beyond the mobility industry," says Reuter.

The Technology Pioneers were selected by a selection committee consisting of over 59 academics, entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, and executives. The committee makes its decisions based on criteria such as innovation, impact and leadership. For example, Airbnb, Google, Kickstarter, Mozilla, Plantir Technologies, Spotify, TransferWise, Twitter and Wikimedia are former Technology Pioneers.
