»We very much regret having to cancel this year's SPS 2020 in Nuremberg«, comments Martin Roschkowski, President Mesago Messe Frankfurt, on the cancellation. »At the beginning of the summer, the premise looked very good and we firmly believed that the trade fair would take place in Nuremberg in November. Our protection and hygiene concept planned at that time was received positively and further developed with many of the trade fair participants. This has shown us how well the SPS community works together and we would like to thank them very much«, Roschkowski continues.
According to Mesago, one of the main reasons for the cancellation are the great concerns of the participants, expressed in many discussions, regarding the significantly changed conditions. Many companies are also concerned about their employees. The prescribed strict distance and hygiene rules, travel restrictions and an uncertain economic situation indicate that the trade fair cannot be held in the usual quality.
The SPS is characterized above all by intensive technical discussions and the exchange between exhibitors and visitors. Currently Mesago sees hardly any opportunity to make this possible on site, says Sylke Schulz-Metzner, Vice President of SPS.
However, there is a ray of hope for the industry: The organizer Mesago Messe Frankfurt is already in the final stages of implementing a virtual offer. It is intended to offer exhibitors and visitors the opportunity to digitally exchange information on current developments and trends in automation technology. The virtual platform »SPSConnect« starts on 24th of November 2020, the same day on which the physical trade fair would have opened its doors. Further information can be found on the event website.
