Voice command and control systems have experienced a huge proliferation in recent years. Especially in intelligent, personal assistants – built into the »Smart Speakers« of many household devices. But, this requires an Internet connection and the processing of voice data in a Cloud often operated by the manufacturer.
However, the use of voice controls in industrial environments presents special challenges. On the one hand, noisy ambient conditions and background noise must be taken into account. On the other hand, the use of Cloud services might be prohibited for reasons of data protection, IT security or the lack of an Internet connection. In particular, the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) make the collection of voice data by companies and the storage of this data in a Cloud a very sensitive subject.
Voice INTER connect presented its voice control system »vicCONTROL industrial« as an alternative solution for the above mentioned problems for use in industrial applications offering the same flexibility and performance as Cloud-based speech assistants. The embedded voice control is intended for ARMv7 compatible platforms. Due to the widespread use of these processors in devices and machine controls, the software can be used directly without additional hardware. The dialog design tool vicSDC makes the development of a customer-specific voice control application simple and straightforward. Furthermore, voice INTER connect offers the »Speechkit«, which includes a phyBOARD Mira from Phytec as well as a pre-installed voice application and access to the vicSDC design tool. This enables the generation of a voice application within a few hours which can then be tested. Integration with the existing control application is carried out via the IoT protocol MQTT.
30 Languages spoken
vicCONTROL industrial does not require an Internet connection. All components are integrated on the target platform and run directly there. Alternatively, the voice control function can be implemented on any locally networked node, provided the target device has a network connection. This makes it available at all times and allows real-time processing even in data protection- sensitive environments.
The vicCONTROL industrial can capture natural-language phrases of all types of structure and decodes the parameters they contain using semantic AI post-processing. Being available in 30 languages, it can be used worldwide.
With this solution the advantages of a multi-language assistant can now be used in robust industrial environments. Thus, simultaneous monitoring and operating actions or interaction with industrial robots is made possible. They are also used as maintenance assistants, as front-ends for information systems or as remote controls for devices and systems via a telecommunications network.
