The International Distribution of Electronics Association (IDEA), an international association of local associations in the electronic components industry, has appointed Georg Steinberger as president with immediate effect.

He succeeds Silvio Baronchelli, who is now taking over as honorary chairman after 35 years. Steinberger is a volunteer and shares responsibilities with the chairman of IDEA Adam Fletcher and Laura Baronchelli, who is the secretary of IDEA and responsible for administrative matters.

"I consider it a great honor to use IDEA to advance the worldwide establishment of component distribution," said Georg Steinberger, commenting on his appointment. "Distribution with its services and solutions is crucial for the global supply chain and the product lifecycle of all customers. That is why we want to more clearly communicate their services to the industry. While the local country associations are doing an excellent job of organizing market data and collaborating on political, legal, and environmental issues, I believe IDEA is in an ideal position to bring trends and developments closer to an international audience".

Steinberger, who is vice president marketing & communication at Avnet EMEA and is responsible for both FBDi e.V. and DMASS Ltd. (Distributors' and Manufacturers' Association of Semiconductor Specialists), is a recognized leader in the components industry. He began his career as a technical writer in 1987 and joined EBV Elektronik in 1998. Since the acquisition of EBV by Avnet, he has served as vice president marketing & communication. He has also been responsible for environmental issues at Avnet EMEA since 2003 and has been one of the two chairmen of Avnet's Global Corporate Social Responsibility Council since 2015.

"Over the past 20 years, Georg has created great transparency for distribution in Europe," said Silvio Baronchelli. "With his experience, he can take IDEA to a higher level, where it is about the intensive exchange of trends, market information, and insights into legal and political issues between members and ultimately with component manufacturers, distributors, and their broad customer base."
