Murrelektronik, for example, wants to open another door on the way to industry 4.0 with its own cloud service. The IoT edge gateway "Nexogate" serves as an interface to the "Murrelektronik Cloud". Both originate from Schildknecht: The Nexogate is based on Schildknecht's IoT-Edge gateway "Dataeagle 7050" and the Murrelektronik cloud is based on the corresponding device cloud solution "Dataeagle Portal". The Murrelektronik cloud service transfers data from control and I/O components in machines and systems directly to the cloud. This enables problem-free access via a wide range of devices, regardless of location. Transmission takes place via an encrypted communication channel, either by mobile phone or via a network. A notification function allows warning messages to be issued to mobile devices or fault messages to be sent via SMS.
The Murrelektronik cloud offers a clear dashboard in which users can compile and visualize all the data they need flexibly and according to their specific needs. Machine and plant operators can use the information to monitor and optimize machines and production processes and to implement predictive maintenance, i.e. to determine the right time and place for service calls.
Bringing serial device data into the cloud
Moxa has introduced new cloud connectivity features for its NPort IA5000A-I/O and NPort IAW5000A-I/O series of serial device servers and its MGate 5105-MB-EIP series of protocol gateways. With their help, users can easily connect their serial devices for IIoT applications to cloud systems.
Members of the NPort IA5000A-I/O and NPort IAW5000A-I/O families collect serial or I/O data, members of the MGate 5105-MB-EIP family collect EtherNet/IP and Modbus RTU/TCP data. All versions transfer the data via common MQTT protocols to public cloud services such as Microsoft Azure and Alibaba Cloud or to private cloud services. The devices provide intuitive user interfaces that allow users to configure settings in just a few steps. They also support diagnostic tools that allow users to identify connection problems and connect field devices to the cloud.
Unstable connections occur from time to time. With serial device servers and protocol gateways, users can avoid packet loss on unstable connections. The modules support the connection loss buffer to queue incoming data from field devices for unstable connections. The data is then transferred as soon as the connection is restored.
