At an opening ceremony, architect Monty Klepzig symbolically handed over the key of »Plant 1« to Prof. Günther Schuh and plant manager Dr. Bastian Lüdtke. Starting in mid-2019, 20,000 e-vehicles are to roll off the assembly line in Aachen every year.

e.GO Mobile now produces the electric city car e.GO Life in »Plant 1«. Production is characterized by digital continuity, including development, purchasing, and assembly – both in process definition and in material flow.

The 16,000 m2 plant in the TRIWO Technopark comprises assembly and logistics halls as well as office space. Clean solar power from the roof of the production hall is used to produce the e-vehicles – in addition, more than 70 charging points in Aachen are supplied with green electricity. The solar system currently has a power of 750 kW (peak power) and will be expanded by the same power in 2019. The modules will generate over 1.3 million kWh of green electricity annually and save over 700,000 kg of CO2.

142 employees produce 10,000 e-vehicles annually after the start of series production in single-shift operation. In mid-2019, e.GO Mobile plans to introduce a second shift to increase production capacity to 20,000 vehicles per year. The buyers can then pick up their ordered e.GO Life in the company's showroom – the first customer delivery is planned for the end of 2018.

In addition to »Plant 1«, the company is already building »Plant 2«, where the body will be produced in the future. For the third project of e.GO Mobile, the electric minibus e.GO Mover, the company is already planning »Plant 3«, which will also be built in the TRIWO Technopark – start of construction August 2018.

Mayor Marcel Philipp said at the opening ceremony: »This is a great signal for Aachen. We consider the decision to produce the e.GO Life in Aachen as a clear avowal to Aachen as a location for innovation. I am pleased that after the StreetScooter, the next forward-looking electric vehicle, the e.GO Life, is now not only being developed in, but is also being built in Aachen. This fits in perfectly with our efforts as a university and science city to promote the mobility of tomorrow. It also brings us highly qualified jobs and a very good nationwide response.«
