Industrial IoT Gateway from Avnet Edge Computing with the Raspberry Pi

Avnet's SmartEdge Industrial IoT Gateway is based on Raspberry Pi and is now available through Farnell.

Applications include building management, vehicle monitoring, industrial automation and predictive maintenance.

Avnet's IoTConnect platform runs on Microsoft Azure, a comprehensive set of edge-to-cloud services designed to create, deploy and manage IoT-connected assets in enterprises.  

The gateway offers versatile connectivity with data intelligence for many industry 4.0 applications - including additional ports for processing industrial protocols, a higher power input range, a trusted computing module for comprehensive end-to-end hardware data security, and a rugged metal enclosure for wall or DIN rail mounting.
This allows developers familiar with prototype development on a Raspberry Pi device to bring their designs into an industrial environment without having to switch platforms.

Connectivity options include a complete set of industrial peripherals, including CAN-BUS and RS-232/485 interfaces (Modbus and DeviceNet), isolated digital I/Os and dual 10/100 Ethernet, with wireless connectivity including WiFi at 2.4 GHz and BLE 4.2 via an integrated antenna with external connectivity, and an mPCIe interface for wireless modems.

Power is supplied via a 12-24 V DC input and an HDMI display output is also integrated. It is based on an 8 Gbyte EMMC, which replaces the standard SD memory card, with security provided by an onboard TPM 2.0.
The unit also features the 40-pin expansion connector to connect to HATs and other accessories.

The enclosure provides space for additional internal accessories, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave or LoRa communication options, or for multiple accessories through enclosure expansion. Mounting options include DIN rail, wall or freestanding.
