Smartphone as Control Device Driver Assistance by App

VIA Technologies used Computex 2019 to introduce a driver assistance app for smartphones.

"We are the world's first company to provide advanced Level 2 (Level 2) driver assistance on a smartphone. We see it as our mission to drive the development of self-propelled applications to significantly expand the functionality of the world's most widely used mobile device," said Richard Brown, vice president, international marketing, VIA Technologies. "With our announced VIA-AI platform, we want to create a vibrant IT ecosystem for developers, enthusiasts and industry partners to jointly develop innovative apps and services to improve driving safety and comfort.

VIA-AI" is an open source driver assistance app that supports features such as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) and CAN bus integration. It enables the development of driver assistance functions for a range of selected vehicle types using modern Android smartphones and hardware connections. On the VIA-AI platform to be released in July 2019, VIA will make the source code, documentation of the solution and its list of accessories accessible.

VIA-AI is equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) technologies that are already used in VIA's Mobile360 vehicle systems for commercial applications in areas such as public transportation, mining, earthworks or autonomous delivery robots. VIA Mobile360 vehicle systems are flexibly configurable and quickly adaptable to a wide range of driver assistance, situation detection and autonomous driving applications. They support functions such as 360° video surveillance, ADAS, DMS (Driver Management System), NVR and enable the integration of sensors.
